Laser Sources

The PULS group develops novel femtosecond laser technology with the general aim to demonstrate new ultrafast laser systems with higher average power. To achieve this goal, we explore new laser gain materials, laser geometries, pulse generation mechanisms and techniques to manipulate high average power laser beams.  These novel sources are critically needed in many applications to speed up measurements and process speeds, for example in fundamental ultrafast spectroscopy studies, but also in ultrafast material processing.

Our key know-how in high-average power ultrafast laser sources is used to demonstrate record-high average power broadband secondary sources of radiation via nonlinear conversion techniques. In particular, we have recently focused our attention on the Terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum, where broadband high-average power THz sources promise to unlock many fields of application such as solvation science and imaging, among many others.
